Concerts, music, and the thrill of live performances—what better way to let loose and forget about the daily grind? As an avid concert-goer, I simply couldn’t resist the opportunity to see my beloved Backstreet Boys perform. These guys have been stealing my heart since the late ’90s, and their infectious showmanship, incredible music, and undeniable charm continue to captivate me. So you can imagine my excitement when I discovered that the Backstreet Boys were gracing the stage in Singapore on the 22nd of February, 2023 for the Backstreet Boys DNA World Tour 2023. It was a no-brainer—I had to be there!
Now, I must admit, I was a tad disappointed that they didn’t swing by Malaysia, choosing Singapore as their only stop in Southeast Asia. I mean, they’ve been to Singapore before – pre-COVID in 2019. But hey, I guess it’s just one of those quirky decisions concert organizers make to dodge unnecessary headaches caused by political hullabaloo. I’m too familiar with some Malaysian politicians who loved turning regular music events into some kind of debauched activity. Sometimes, you just have to roll with it!
Making the 4-hour Journey to Backstreet Boys DNA World Tour with Our Trusted Ride
To make the most of this epic event, my husband and I hopped in the car and embarked on a mini adventure. We drove to Johor Bahru and checked into a fabulous hotel near the CIQ, ensuring seamless travel in and out of Singapore. While I have cousins in the Lion City, a one-night stay seemed a bit too fleeting to impose on them before we headed back to Kajang.
As luck would have it, a minor change of plans caused us to arrive fashionably late at the concert venue. By the time we got to the Singapore Indoor Stadium, the gates to “Standing PEN A” had swung open, and a sea of fans had already flooded the premises. Thankfully, my considerate cousins dropped us off right at the venue, sparing us from navigating the labyrinthine MRT system. Boy, oh boy, were there a lot of people! Trying to make our way to the front of the standing area proved to be quite the challenge, especially when you’re vertically challenged like us Asians.
The Backstreet Boys’ DNA World Tour 2023 concert was an absolute blast! It was a nostalgic journey down memory lane as they belted out hits from their very first album, aptly titled “Backstreet Boys,” all the way to their 2019 release, “DNA.” I couldn’t contain my excitement when they performed their chart-toppers and even threw in some underrated gems from past albums like “Everyone,” “Get Another Boyfriend,” “I Wanna Be With You,” “That’s The Way I Like It,” and more. They truly catered to every fan’s wildest dreams. Needless to say, I went home hoarse.
What struck me the most was how each member of BSB brought their unique personality to the stage. It was an absolute riot watching them banter with each other and engage the crowd. Brian, bless his heart, was an absolute sweetheart that night. But let’s be real here — my eyes were mostly fixated on Nick. He’s been and will always be my favorite. Sorry, not sorry!
Did this night go down in the books as one to remember? You betcha! If I had an infinite supply of funds, I would follow their tour around the globe, attending their concerts in every country. Their fan interaction, the mind-blowing stage setup, and the sheer brilliance of their performances left me craving for more. I know, call me crazy, but one can dream. Alas, I’m a proud mom to two furry babies, and one of them is a wild handful that no one else can handle. Being a responsible fur parent tends to put a slight damper on my concert-hopping dreams.
I have to be honest though, despite the electrifying experience, I was slightly let down by the merchandise. As a tradition, I always collect concert T-shirts as memorabilia, but the quality of the shirts sold at the BSB Singapore concert left much to be desired. The fabric felt flimsy, and the prints lacked sharpness and clarity. And let’s not forget the price tag—it wasn’t exactly pocket-friendly.
Nevertheless, the day in Singapore was an absolute blast! To top it off, my amazing cousins went above and beyond, ensuring we had a smooth journey back to our hotel in Johor Bahru. I’m incredibly grateful for their thoughtfulness and the love they showed us. Here’s to hoping for more fantastic concerts in the future, with even more unforgettable moments to cherish!
